William "Bill" J. Oeding

William “Bill” J. Oeding, 94, of Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023.  He was born July 12, 1929, in Terre Haute to Albert Oeding and Margaret Bosler Oeding.  Bill retired from the Terre Haute Fire Department and Sears Department Store.  He was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church and more recently St. Bendict Catholic Church.  Bill enjoyed woodworking and was a Colt’s fan.  During baseball season he rooted for the Red, Cubs, and Cardinals.  He loved to travel, visiting Europe twice, going on cruises and travelling to the west coast.  Bill loved to play Sorry with the family and friends. He loved attending the family reunions.  Bill had a warm smile, a generous heart, and never knew a stranger.  Making people smile came naturally to him.  His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his proudest accomplishment and greatest joy. 

Bill is survived by his sons, Steve Oeding (Louisa) and Bill Oeding (Danielle); daughters, Peg Slater (Dean), Sue Parks (Casey), Cindy Contri, Kathy Culver, and Marci Contri, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen in 1963, wife LuAnn in 2003, brothers James Oeding, Robert Oeding, and Richard Oeding, and sister Ethel Kohmescher.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel located at 85 E Springhill Drive, Terre Haute, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at St. Benedict Church, 111 S 9th Street, Terre Haute beginning at 12:00 noon.  The family will receive visitors at the church from 11:00 a.m. until Mass time.  Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
