William W. Miller, 95, of Terre Haute, died on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at his home. He was born September 29, 1927 in Clay County near Jasonville, Indiana, to Dewey and Velma (McDaniel) Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Josephine (Jo ) Hollis Miller, a sister, Catherine Louise Cole. and a brother, Denzil Miller. Surviving is a sister, Barbara Sinders and husband, David.
He is survived by daughters, Susan Bryan, Janice Patterson, and Denise Liles and by grandchildren, Will and Valerie Green, Ethan and Cody Patterson, and Aaron Mick and Elizabeth Kulp, and a recent great granddaughter, Maizie Kulp.
He attended Coalmont High School and graduated from Jasonville High School in 1945. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics education from Indiana State University. He attended Rose Polytechnic Institute and Florida State University. He taught mathematics and computers at Wiley High School and South Vigo High School from which he retired in 1992. After retiring, he continued to tutor mathematics students online.
Before teaching. he had worked as credit manager for the Silverstein Brothers and A and I furniture stores. He served in the army on two occasions, 1946-47, and during the Korean War, 1950-51.
He was an accomplished bowler and had served as an officer of two mixed senior bowling leagues at the Terre Haute Bowling Center. He designed and printed certificates of achievement for league members.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Heart to Heart Hospice of Terre Haute. They provided such special care as well as support to the family. And for that, the family is eternally grateful and appreciative.
According to his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. DeBaun Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn located at 3300 US Highway 41 South, Terre Haute.
