Walter David Whitkanack, 74, of southern Vigo County, died at his home September, 26, 2021. He was born on September 28, 1946 to Gilbert ‘Doc’ and Bertha Hilbert Whitkanack. David retired after 30 years as a driver for Roadway Trucking Company. He was a racing enthusiast, especially stock cars and motorcycles, and enjoyed fishing. He also was known to tell everyone “ If you ever need help call 1-800-Walter D.” His survivors include his K-9 friend Evie, his wife Lois (Harris) Whitkanack, a son Troy (Linda) Whitkanack and their children Hannah (Trent) Greenwell, Lilly Whitkanack; a daughter Deann Hayhurst (Harvey) and her son Jeremy Whitkanack. He was preceded in death by a son Gary Whitkanack and is survived by his daughter Tasha (Ryan) Robbins; great-grandchildren Hadlee Greenwell, Easton Whitkanack, Oakley Whitkanack, and Bristol Robbins. He is also survived by brother-in-law Marvin Harris and sisters-in-law Rosemary Fuson,, Cecelia Barbee and Carol Jenkins and several nieces and nephews. He was also receded in death by his parents and a sister Marva Sue Shields. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel and burial will follow at Watson Cemetery.
