Vicki Farris Obituary

Following a lengthy bout of illness, Vicki Lynn Farris (née Phillips) departed this earthly life in the early morning of Friday, February 23, 2024, at Majestic Care of Deming Park. Vicki was born in Brazil, Indiana, on Wednesday, February 6, 1952, to Mary Ruth Phillips (née Palm) & Milton Bedford Phillips.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Mary & Milton, and her beloved grandparents, Stanley & Lana Palm. She is survived by her wonderful husband of 48 years, Bob Farris; her brother Milton David Phillips of Brazil; her best friend, Betty Jane Jones; and many, many special & loving friends.

As a student at Brazil Senior High School, Vicki belonged to the Ravon Drama Club, as well as the school band in which she played the clarinet. She graduated from Brazil Senior High School in 1970, later playing in the Brazil Concert Band. Vicki also attended and graduated from Harrold Beauty Academy. She was always one to appreciate a fun hairstyle.

On June 26, 1976, Vicki was joined in marriage with Bob Farris—her fellow race fan extraordinaire. At this time, Vicki moved from Brazil to Terre Haute, becoming the matriarch of her neighborhood.

Vicki loved life and always lived it to the fullest—she was truly always young at heart. She & Bob loved stock car races—and that may be an understatement! They went to the races the evening of their wedding!

As Bob drove his stock cars at multiple racetracks, Vicki was always right by his side—loving every moment of the races. Until 2020, Saturday WAS race night. Fortunately for Bob, Vicki always ensured Bob’s racing gear was maintained, organized, and ready to go. The love they shared for racing was so strong!

After Bob’s retirement from racing, Vicki was always ready—to go, go, GO! She took great joy in thrifting, wading through rummage sales, and obtaining great finds at the flea market. She was an avid deal-seeker and found many steals.

As many people know, Vicki never slowed down. She & Bob always had a very full & active social life. Dinners out and live music were some of Vicki’s favorite things. She also loved to dance while attending live music. They often went out five nights a week! They enjoyed attending the VFW, the American Legion, the Eagles, Charlie’s Pub, & other local watering holes offering life music. Vicki was always fun—and always had fun. She made several friends at these social events.

Aside from the racing & the dancing—Vicki is also remembered for her fun appearance. She usually took about two hours to get her look “just right!” Her hair always had a jazzy cut & often a fun color. She always made sure her skinny jeans coordinated perfectly with her top—and there was always the production of choosing jewelry and other accessories.

Vicki’s quick wit, silly faces, and ability to make occasions joyous will be greatly missed by all. Her big personality—and her shiny accessories—will always be fondly remembered. She will continue to be loved by Bob & her family & her many friends.
