Stephen Michael Dunphy, 67, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, May 18, 2025.
Stephen was born on March 4, 1958, in Queens, New York. He was a longtime member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 in Terre Haute, where he worked hard and took pride in being part of a strong brotherhood.
Stephen was a man of deep Catholic faith, which guided him throughout his life. He was a true man of God, always willing to help others in times of need.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures like riding his Harley and deep-sea fishing off the coast of Long Island. Stephen never knew a stranger—whether in his hometown or across the country, someone always seemed to recognize him and stop to chat.
Though he battled many illnesses over the years, Stephen faced them with determination and courage. In his own words, he was one “tough son of a bitch.”
Stephen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at DeBaun Funeral Home, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 2:00 PM at the same location. Stephen will be laid to rest at New Harmony Cemetery in Terre Haute.
