Sister Elizabeth Meyer Obituary

Sister Elizabeth Meyer died on June 1, 2022, in Mother Theodore Hall. She was born on June 14, 1931 in Indianapolis to William and Elizabeth Boersig Meyer and was baptized Elizabeth Ann.
Sister Elizabeth entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Feb. 2, 1950 and was given the name Sister Joseph Aloyse. She professed Final Vows Aug.15, 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree from Indiana University. Of her 72 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered in education for 50 years in schools in Indiana and Illinois, for 39 of those years as elementary teacher and the last 11 as school librarian. In 2006, she returned to the Motherhouse. A woman with a beautiful singing voice, she served frequently as a cantor at liturgy for many years. She was an avid bird watcher, a caring gardener, and a quiet woman who gave service generously. Beginning in 2021, she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer.
Sister is survived a sister-in-law, Carolyn Meyer of Camarillo, CA; and by nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two brothers, William Meyer, Jr. and Joseph Meyer. The wake is on June 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception followed by the Mass of Christian Burial with Reverend Terry Johnson presiding. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted with arrangements.
