Sister Edna Scheller

Sister Edna Scheller died on June 8 in Lourdes Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born on May 28, 1932 in Evansville, IN to William and Margaret Elpers Scheller and was baptized Edna Mae.
Sister Edna entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 8, 1950 and received her given name as her religious name. She professed Final Vows on Aug. 15, 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree from Indiana University. Of her 70 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered in education for 43 years in Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, and California. She served as principal for 16 of those years which included seven years as principal of Sacred Heart School in Clinton from 1993 to 2000. She took a few years from teaching to minister as Health Care Administrator at the Motherhouse from 1988 to 1993. In 2001, she became Coordinator of Transportation for her sisters at the Motherhouse, a position she held for 16 years.
Sister Edna was a generous and caring person, wholeheartedly dedicated to service. Any time she was asked to take on a task, she readily agreed and performed the duty competently and graciously. She was actively serving her sisters in a variety of ways until the day she died.
Sister Edna is survived by a brother, Thomas Scheller of Evansville, IN. She is preceded in death by three brothers, William Scheller, Ralph Scheller, and the Rev. Albert Scheller and three sisters, Marcella Goodwin, Dolores Shoemaker, and Betty Bienhaus. Due to the restrictions on group meetings, no public wake and funeral is scheduled.
