Sister Annette Schipp died on July 14, 2021 in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
She was born on July 9, 1922 in Ferdinand, IN to Albert J. and Anna Wilmes Schipp and was baptized Edna Carolyn.
Sister Annette entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 6, 1940 and professed Final Vows on Aug. 15, 1948. Sister earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree from Indiana University.
Of her 81 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered for 49 years in education in elementary schools in Indiana and Illinois. She was principal for six years at Good Shepherd in Evansville, IN. In 1991, she retired from teaching and served as receptionist at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany for two years and then moved to Indianapolis where she remained for 11 years giving volunteer service to parish and community groups. The convent yard was full of flowers, all nurtured by her skill and vigilance. In 2004, she moved to the Motherhouse where she continued to give service, in particular, to her sisters in health care.
Sister Annette was, in every way, a beautiful person. One noticed her sparking eyes, her flawless skin, her radiant smile, and gentle demeanor, all of which manifested her prayerful, loving, welcoming spirit.
Sister Annette is survived by nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Catherine Schipp and Dorothy Thomas; and four brothers, Robert, Albert, Jr. (Jim), Frank, and Ron Schipp.
The wake is on Wednesday, July 21, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Terry Johnson presiding. Guests are welcome but a mask must be worn. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted with arrangements.
