Sandra Sue VanGilder, 79, of West Lafayette and formerly of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Indiana Veterans Home. She was born May 14, 1941 in Terre Haute to Clarence and Josephine Dooley. Sandy was a former member of the Eastern Star and served as a council member in Job’s Daughters. She also attended the United Methodist Church. Sandy held many jobs over the years some include a local Glass House, selling Tupperware, Kroger, school bus driver, Columbia Records, cleaned houses and Antiques Crafts & Things. Sandy enjoyed crafting and had her own business for over 20 years, The Flowers & Lace Shoppe. Sandy and Bill traveled all over the state of Indiana setting up at craft shows. She also enjoyed fitness walking, gardening and scrapbooking. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and pets.
Sandra is survived by her daughters Debbie Honsowetz (Mike) of Lafayette and Lynda Forti (Dave) of New Jersey; sons Joseph VanGilder (Carolyn) of North Carolina and Bill VanGilder of Illinois; grandchildren Laura Mirabella (John), Thomas Forti, Quentin VanGilder (Brooke), Monica Pugh (Dustin), Taylor Honsowetz (Raysha), and Nathan Honsowetz (Kasey), nine great grandchildren, sister Patty Throckmorton of Michigan, and her loyal companion, Simon, her Dachshund.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband William VanGilder, whom she married in 1964.
A Celebration of Life will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Monday, July 6, 2020. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services will follow visitation. Celebrant Marta Adubato will be officiating. Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
