Rose Marie Slater, 85, passed away February 29, 2024 at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice. She was born February 25, 1939 in Terre Haute to John Henry Hemminghouse and Alice Malloy Hemminghouse. Her husband, Donald Slater, passed away April 1, 2019. Don worked construction jobs throughout the United States and abroad. Rose was an expert at creating a home and entertaining, in support of her husband and his career. Her favorite memory was when they lived in Jamaica. Their home base was Martinsville, IL. Rose was a graduate of Schulte High School. She was an animal lover, especially cats and was a “cat mom” to many cats through the years.
She was a beloved aunt. Her family has many wonderful memories of time spent with her and Uncle Don. Her nephews and nieces are: Michael Stanley Machango (Tammie) of Ellettsville, IN; Kim Machango of Metcalf, IL; John E. Hemminghouse (Terri); Burke Hemminghouse (Dete) of Delray Beach, FL; and Michael Hemminghouse. Her nieces are: Julie Machango of Martinsvillie, IL; Polly Jeffers (Jimmie); Elizabeth Coons (William), Kathy McDaniel (Rick); and Paula Voudrie; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Peggie Hemminghouse. She will be sadly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband; brothers, John D. Hemminghouse; William “Moose” Hemminghouse; Timothy Hemminghouse; and sister, Madeleine Machango.
