Ronnie "Ron" Gene Harris

Ronnie “Ron” Gene Harris, 83, passed away on November 17, 2023. He was born on July 12, 1940 in Worthington to Wilbur Harris and Willidean (Wright) Harris. Ron married Janice (Klass) Harris on June 4, 1961. They were inseparable and made great memories while traveling.

He started his barber career at Kincade’s Meadow Center in July of 1960. In 1976, he opened his own shop, Ron’s Style Shack, where Kelly and Cody are carrying on the trade. Ron was also past Master and lifetime member of the Riley Masonic Lodge 390. He enjoyed the outdoors very much. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was talented at woodworking. His favorite fishing trips were to Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Canada. The past two years Ron and Cody went fishing in Minaki, Canada and caught nice muskie, northern pike, and walleye. He also knew some great mushroom hunting spots that he kept a secret. Ron loved college basketball, especially IU Hoosiers basketball, and he had a black belt in karate.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, daughters Kelly (Harris) Bovenschen (Bobby) and Becky Harris (Paula), brothers Gerald Harris (Jean) and Darrell Harris (Cindy), sister Linda Mitten (Randall), grandsons Kyle Starkey and Cody Starkey (Sara), great-grandchildren Kenzie, Kyle Jr., Bryanna, Chloe, Myla, and Bennett; and a great-great-grandson Zayden. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 11 am to 1 pm at DeBaun Springhill Chapel with a masonic and funeral service starting at 1pm. Burial will be at Beech Cemetery in Coal City, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society in his honor.
