Ronald “Ron” Gene Shaw, 79, passed away on August 29, 2025. He was born on February 10, 1946, in Terre Haute to Thomas Shaw Sr. and Frances M. (Reynolds) Chambers. Ron was a cowboy at heart who took great pride in wearing his big cowboy hats and cowboy boots. He loved his horses, especially his adopted Mustang, Whiskey. He also enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, and carpentry work.
Ron retired from the Vigo County Sheriff's Department, where he was known as “Cowboy Ron,” proudly worked as an Animal Control Officer. Ron loved helping others and was honored to be a member of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Posse “Mounted Patrol.” Prior to serving the community, he also held other jobs as an over-the-road truck driver and a carpenter at Indiana State University.
He is survived by his sons Chris Shaw, Scott Shaw (Beth), siblings Tom Shaw Jr., Steve Shaw (Evelyn), Jeannie Jacob, Marie Bays (Terry), and George Lund; grandchildren Cameo Shaw, Nicholas Shaw; great grandchildren Holly and Kali; nephew Kevin Shaw and devoted niece Amy Shaw.
He was preceded in death by his son Carl Shaw, who passed away in 1977, his grandmother “Granny,” Madge Huey, who raised him and both of his parents.
Ron was a devoted family member and friend, always ready with a helping hand or a story to share. He cherished time spent with loved ones, whether it was with a friend at Pow Wows dressing up in his pioneer clothing, or while tending to his horses. His kindness, humor, and generosity touched many lives, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
