Robert Grose Obituary

Bob Grose was born in Terre Haute, IN, the first child of the late Oran and Mildred Grose. He grew up in Terre Haute, graduating from Gerstmeyer Technical High School. It was in high school that he fell in love with Adina May Hart, and Bob and Adina married on January 26, 1951.

Bob served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and during his service, the young couple started their family, with daughter Deb born in IN in 1952 and son Rob in San Diego, CA in 1955. Following Bob’s service he joined IBM, his career taking them to various locations in Indiana, to Rochester, MN, (where son Gary was born in 1964), New City and Endwell, NY, Wilton, CT, and Wayne, NJ. Bob’s successful career was a great source of pride, but even as he worked hard to move up the corporate ladder and provide for his family, he always made time for exploration and adventure, and always in the company of all or part of his family. Bob loved the out of doors, being active, and challenging himself physically and mentally. He earned his private pilot’s license and led his family on countless trips throughout the country, creating wonderful memories for his children, and later their children.

Bob retired in 1987, and he and Adina moved to Savannah, GA. They loved their time golfing, meeting and spending time with new and lifelong friends, and spent important time in service to others. Bob worked with Habitat for Humanity and with their church, but perhaps their most notable act of service was volunteering in a community in Guatemala, eventually donating and driving a vehicle to Guatemala for a couple in need.

In search of yet another adventure, Bob and Adina relocated to St. Marys, GA. Bob was a loving spouse, caring for Adina for several years when she became ill. After losing his beloved wife of 57 years, Bob met, fell in love with and married Mary Sue Williams. Bob and Sue loved their travel: mostly cruises and driving trips to visit family in many locations around the country. Following Sue’s cancer diagnosis, Bob became a caregiver again, until Sue’s death this past fall.

Bob is survived by his sister Shirley Osburn of Terre Haute, IN; his daughter Debra Hill and husband Brad Hill of Avon, NY; his son Rob Grose and wife Lisa Grose of Richmond, VA; and son Gary Grose and wife Ellen Goldrick of Michiana, MI. Bob’s legacy also includes the grandchildren whom he loved: Anne (Scott) Gaskill; Lee (Kerry) Hill; Evan (Lauren) Hill; and Taylor Morrow. Also great-grandchildren Daniel, Joshua and Bennett Gaskill; Delton and Conrad Hill; and Lincoln Hill, born one week before Bob’s 90th birthday, on January 20, 2021. Bob is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, more than a few of whom remember him as “the most fun of the uncles.” There will be no funeral or service due to Covid restrictions. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Bob to: First Presbyterian Church, 100 Conyers St. E., St. Marys, GA  31558.
