Rita Marjorie (Kress) Callahan

Rita Marjorie (Kress) Callahan, 93, passed away on June 27, 2021.  She was born on March 9, 1928 to Anthony Kress and Helen (Schick) Kress.  Rita is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Henry Kress (Helen), Wilbur Kress (Martha); sisters Catherine Butts (Virgil), Betty Piker (Walter), and sister-in-law Marge Kress.  Rita is survived by her husband of 72 years Robert, the two married September 4, 1948; daughter Cheryl Thornton (Don) of Terre Haute; grandsons Nathan (Lauren) of Noblesville and Tyler of Chicago; three great-grandchildren Lucas, Eloise, and Lydia; brother Robert Kress and many nieces and nephews.  Rita graduated from St. Patrick’s Girls High School in Terre Haute. She was a resident of St. Mary of the Woods Village for 51 years prior to moving to Cobblestone Health Campus in 2018.  Rita was a member of St. Joseph University Parish; formerly active on parish council, alter society, Samaritan Committee, and assisted with counting Sunday church offerings.  She retired Vigo County School Corporation Executive Assistant to three school superintendents (Dr. Harmon Baldwin, Dr. Duane Moore, and Mr. Charles Clark.)  Rita loved spending time with her family, feeding and watching birds in her backyard, flower gardening, and her pet cat, Callie.  Special thanks to Tosha Davis and Amy Howard of Southern Care Hospice, Dr. Camillo Mendoza, and the staff of Cobblestone Health Campus, particularly Meleah Reed, April Taylor, Patty Caudill, Amber Mesaeh, Nikki Jewell, and Steve Whitlock.  Visitation for Rita will be held on Friday, July 2nd at St. Joseph University Parish from 10-11:00 AM with funeral mass beginning at 11:00 AM.  Burial at Calvary Cemetery will follow.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Rita’s name to Ouabache Valley Felines and Friends (7300 E.
