Richard R. Haas, 94, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday August 20, 2016 in his residence. He was a retired farmer. Richard was born July 11, 1922 in Vigo County to Samuel Haas and Birchie (Swank) Haas. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Lynn Nelson and husband Neil of Terre Haute; a son, Dr. Ray Allan Haas and wife Babette of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, Shelley, Evan, Danielle, Aliya, and Raylynn; four great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Heady and Wanda Morris; several nieces and nephews and four special care givers who had taken care of him for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth A. (Rice) Haas who died September 14, 2012. Richard was a charter member of the Pierson Township Lion's Club; he was a member of the ISU Big Blue Booster Club for Women's Basketball. He loved to go fishing and bowling and loved to spend time with his special dog Buffy. Visitation will be Monday August 22, 2016 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in Samaritan Funeral Home (formerly DeBaun Wabash Avenue Chapel) 2425 Wabash Ave. with funeral services at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Tim Fagg officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers that family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Mission.
