Richard E. Booe, 71, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday July 17, 2024, in his residence. Richard was owner of R. Booe & Sons Hardwoods. He was born July 11, 1953, in Brazil, Indiana to Marvin Dean Booe, Sr. and Virginia F. (Barrett) Booe. Richard is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Nees) Booe; daughter, Katrina Kelsheimer (Brad); sons, Matthew Booe (Jennifer) and Elliott Booe; brothers, Bill Booe (Peggy) and Jim Booe (Polly); grandchildren, Kourtney McNerney (Colgan), Ginny Clark, Lyndee Clark, Jacob Kelsheimer, Abby Kelsheimer, Caroline Booe, Thea Booe, Cristofer Reyes, and Johana Reyes; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anna Sinders.
Richard was raised in Clay City, Indiana and was a 1971 graduate of Clay City High School. In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathy, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He received his BS and master’s degree in physics from Indiana State University and went on to teach at Cloverdale High School, Linton High School, and Clay City High School. Richard then followed in his father’s footsteps in the lumber business. In 1978 he established Clay City Sawmill, later R. Booe & Son Hardwoods, which continues today. He was a member of the IHLA (Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen’s Association). Richard was a man of faith and dedicated member of Vision Baptist Church in Riley, Indiana. Richard enjoyed flying and was a licensed private pilot. Music also played an important role in his life, as he spent many years playing guitar, songwriting, and singing. Most importantly, Richard enjoyed a life always surrounded by his animals that he loved so much.
Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of life that will be held on Sunday, July 28th at 3pm in the Idle Creek Banquet Center. Pastor Dustin Spitler will officiate.
