Pastor Erasmo "Raz" DeLaGarza

Pastor Erasmo “Raz” DeLaGarza, Jr., 65, of Shelburn, Indiana went to be with the Lord and Savior on Monday, October 4, 2021.  He was born on November 23, 1955 in Dallas, Texas to Erasmo DeLaGarza, Sr. and Mary Morales DeLaGarza.  He has three brothers and three sisters, Elizabeth, Noemi, Lidia,  Thomas, Stephen and John.

Raz was a successful businessman in the housing industry but he has always felt a calling in his life. And in May of 2020, he heeded the call and became the founder and Pastor of The Church of New Beginnings in Sullivan, Indiana.  Raz was a prayer warrior. You will find him in the church down on his knees every morning praying and worshipping. He loved God above all else. Among his many roles in life, he considered being a Pastor as  his most important one. And he will be the first one to tell you that of all the houses he built, the House of God was the best house ever.  

People will always remember Raz or Pastor Raz as a man of God -very loving, kind-hearted, humble, giving and compassionate person. He will not hesitate to pray for or with anyone, anywhere. His faith in the Lord is rock solid. And one cannot help but love his wit and humor too.

Raz and his close knit family always look forward to  their special  family tradition of celebrating Christmas on Thanksgiving Day in their family home in Shelburn, Indiana. Summer is another time of family get-together either at home or in Florida.

Raz is survived by his loving wife, Cecile DeLaGarza, daughters Maranatha Magdalene Burch (Robert Jeffrey Burch) and Miriam Maria Ackerman (Jeremy Allen Ackerman), son Philip Andrew Erasmo DeLaGarza (Irene Victoria DeLaGarza) and stepson Mark Ronald Micabalo, grandchildren KiLee Isela DeLaGarza, Alliyah Scout Ackerman, Isaac William DeLaGarza, and Miranda Bailey DeLaGarza.  He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Gabrielle Grace Ackerman and step daughter-in-law Kristine Mae Micabalo.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at The Church of New Beginnings located at 427 North Olive Street, Sullivan, Indiana. The service to celebrate the life of Pastor Raz follows after the visitation. Pastor Adolf Delagarza will officiate the service.
