Nilda M. Criss

Nilda M. Criss, 80, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024. She was born on April 12, 1943 in Terre Haute, IN to Mable Jane Wilson Clark and Earl Franklin Clark.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Mable Jane Wilson Clark and Earl Franklin Clark, her sister Karen Jane Clark Dexter and her sister Harriet Clark Hunter. 

She is survived by her sister Helen Clark Fortner and son-in-law Mike Fortner, her son Dion Martin and daughter-in-law Jennifer Martin, her son Greg Criss and her daughter Kelly Criss as well as many nieces and nephews and grandchildren.  

Nilda was a very hard worker and raised three children all on her own, sometimes working multiple jobs at one time in order to provide.  She always put everyone before herself and never met a stranger. She was a huge animal lover and would help any animal in need. She had many cats throughout her life and adored each one. She always made sure to give to animal societies. Everyone that met her always said “she was the sweetest, nicest, kindest person that anyone could ever meet”.  She will be deeply missed. 

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Larry Branham will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in remembrance of Nilda may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
