Martha Virginia Tryon, 85, of Blackhawk passed away in her home on January 18, 2023 surrounded by her family and beloved cats. She was loving, devoted, and faithful striving in excellence in all that she did.
Martha was born in Indianapolis on September 30, 1937, the daughter of Glen and Theodora (Vandenberg) Hause and grew up in Acton.
She graduated from Franklin High School where she excelled in Home Nursing, Bookkeeping and Accounting, and Home Economics and was active in 4-H. Martha was loved by her classmates and instructors. She sang in her school and church choirs.
Martha was a bookkeeper at the 7-Up Company in downtown Indianapolis. On her 19th birthday while at the “Dutchman’s Picnic” she was introduced to Jim Tryon by a mutual friend, three months and 17 dates later they were married. Jim brought his uptown girl down home to Blackhawk where they celebrated 63 years together. In 1967 they established Hillbilly Corner and Tryon Brothers Welding where Martha was the bookkeeper and often cooked lunch for the work crews.
Martha brought beauty to many lives through her cooking skills, her abilities as a seamstress, her hospitality and her kindness shown through the many cards she sent to others over the years. Babies and animals could not resist her. Martha was a member of Blackhawk Community Church and was active in the Pierson Township Home Economics Club through Purdue Extension Service.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband Jim Tryon, her parents Glen and Theodora (Vandenberg) Hause, and her brother Bill Hause.
Martha is survived by her five children, Jim Tryon Jr. of Lewis, Jess and Eva Tryon of Blackhawk, Cathe and Ralph Peeler of Fairbanks, Beth Charles of Blackhawk, and Sheri McCord of Westfield, 20 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren.
