Marie D. Cosby, 94, of Terre Haute passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She was born July 15, 1928 in Roselle, New Jersey to John Gerlach and Margaret Shannon Gerlach. Marie was one of ten children. She may have only finished the 10th grade, but Marie left school to join other women during WWII working in the defense plants doing the work of men. She welded, made parts for airplanes and submarines, and worked in manufacturing, much like Rosie the Riveter. She was even featured in a local news story on Channel 38 on the program the Greatest Generation where she shared her experiences of her times working in the plants during the war. Marie was always a very giving soul. She loved to knit in her later years. She would knit hundreds of scarves and gloves that she would donate to those in need including to local charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities. Most of all Marie loved to spend time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Marie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Lando Cosby, son Robert K. Oaks II (Cheryl), daughter Chevon Daving, grandchildren Gina Stives (Brian), Robert Oaks III (Christine), Chad Siddens (Addie), Justin Daving, and Chris Siddens, and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Wayne Mead, daughter Mary Nunley, and several siblings.
Graveside services will be held at Danville National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. DeBaun Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
