James P. “Jim” Wood, 88, of Terre Haute passed away Friday May 27, 2022 in Union Hospital. He was born in Atlanta on September 11, 1933. His family moved to Jacksonville, Florida when he was six. He graduated from Lee High School in Jacksonville, then Jacksonville Junior College after which he served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Sergeant when he was discharged. He then completed college at the University of Florida in 1960, getting a degree in Chemical Engineering. Jim was a member of Gamma Sigma Epsilon and Sigma Tau engineering fraternities. He was employed 13 years at PPG Industries in management positions, when he moved to Terre Haute in 1972 as Plant manager of Smith Alsop, which became MAB Paints. He was on the committee to develop the overpass by MAB plant. Jim was a charter member of Terre Haute South Rotary where he achieved the Lifetime Achievement Award and served as president from 1991-1992, he was also Secretary and a multi-year member of the Board of Directors and Assistant Rotary Governor. He and his family all are Paul Harris Fellows. He served on the Board of Directors for the Terre Haute Symphony and Covered Bridge Girl Scout Council. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, Colts games, the Arts, volunteering at the Children’s Museum, Old English Sheepdog rescue, and belonging to Men who Read with Children at Fayette School. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jayne (Etts) Wood; sons, Paul Wood of Dayton, Ohio and Philip Wood (Leah) of La Crosse, Wisconsin and his special animal friends, Riveria and Ms. Kitty. Visitation will be Wednesday June 1, 2022 from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services starting at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Larry Branham officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
