James Arthur Watkins

 

Brownsburg - James Arthur Watkins, 82, formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Brownsburg Meadows Nursing Home.  

Jim was born October 7, 1937 to the late Jesse Arthur Watkins and Harriet Elizabeth (Woods) Watkins.  He graduated from Wiley High School, Terre Haute, in 1955 and attended Indiana State University and Ohio State University School of Mortgage and Banking.  Jim was a member of the Terre Haute First Baptist Church in his early years and later, Oregon Baptist Church of Terre Haute.  He worked with the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the Optimist and Civitan Clubs.  Jim was a founding member of the Honey Creek Volunteer Fire Department.    

He worked for Terre Haute First National Bank as a Vice President Mortgage loan officer and later for Terre Haute Savings Bank.  After he retired he worked at Sam’s Club in Terre Haute.

Jim was an amazing and kind man who was loved by many.  His friends and family remember his huge smile and friendly personality.  He enjoyed a variety of activities including playing cards, puzzles, and watching his grandchildren.  

He is survived by his dedicated, loving wife Charlotte Kay (Gabbard) Watkins in marriage 62 years, his children Mark (Bridget) Watkins, Lori Watkins, Michelle (Kevin) Wolfe, Keith Eric (Laura) Watkins, and his twin sister Judith May Fox. Jim loved his grandchildren, Lauren, Jared, Sabrina, Kevin, Renette, Bradley, Samantha, Samuel, Cameron, and Gracie, his many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Harriet Ann Nichols, and two children Bradley Eugene Watkins and Angela Kay Watkins. 

 A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.  Pastor Bill Newman will be officiating. 

If you would like to follow in procession to the graveside service please meet at DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel by 1:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Brownsburg Meadows Activities Department or Honey Creek Fire Department.
