James Payne

October 11, 1923 ~ May 18, 2020 (age 96) 96 Years Old

James Payne Obituary

James Payne, 96, of Pimento passed away on May 18, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.  He was born October 11, 1923 in Vigo County to Edgar Payne and Janie Sharpe Payne.  Jim and his family were life members of Mt. Olive Community Church where he served as a Deacon and also attended Shady Grove Community Church.   He was a farmer.  Jim was a charter member of the Pierson Township Lions Club and a charter member of the Pierson Township Fire Department.   He was a referee for over 30 years for both baseball and basketball.  He was also a former Chairman of the Vigo County Stabilization Agriculture Committee.

Jim is survived by his  three daughters, Connie Poleski (Mike), Kathie Drake (David) and Darla Gordon (John); grandchildren, Jim Poleski, Laura Murphy, Amber Limerick, Jeff Drake (Denise), Leslie Mallory (Andrew), and Scott Gordon, and seven great grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Ruth who passed away April 25, 2019, and his brothers Keith Payne(Helen) and Paul Payne (Doris).

A private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Pastor Marvin Miller will be officiating.  A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Jim to Union Baptist Church or Mt.
