Jack Melvin Pirtle, 92, of Farmersburg passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, February 13, 2023. He was born on July 24, 1930 in Sullivan to Melvin and Imogean (Fleming) Pirtle. Jack married Patricia Jane Kelly on August 22, 1951, and together they raised three sons, Mike, Bill, and Dave. Jack earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University while working night shift at Pfizer. Jack went on to retire from Pfizer after working in the Personnel and Transportation departments. After retirement, Jack was the caretaker of Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery for 23 years. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion. Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, who passed away March 10, 2013; sons, Michael Kelly Pirtle and William Lee Pirtle; great-grandson, Jackson Alexander Pirtle; and brothers, John Pirtle and Richard Pirtle. He is survived by his son, David Pirtle; grandchildren, Kelly, Michael, Teresa, Thomas, Caroline, and Justin; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Olivia, Brant, Jennings, and Myles; great-great-granddaughter, Everly Mae; his sister, Patty DelFabro; and sister-in-law Stevie Pirtle. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Jack’s honor on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery with military honors to follow.
