Harriett Elizabeth Dalton, 98, of Pimento passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born August 25, 1924, in Brazil, Indiana to Herman Culler and Laura Long Culler. Harriett was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family and the family farm were always a priority. A favorite quote of hers, “self-brag makes self-stink”, was among the cherished life advice she gave to her children. Harriett belonged to the Pierson Township Home Ec Club, Pimento Eastern Star #516, The Lions Club, Blackhawk Community Center, and the Pierson Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was known for her noodles which she made for the Pearson Township Fire Department and the Pimento Community Center Dinners, family gatherings, and teachers at Dixie Bee Elementary. Harriett made beautiful quilts and wall-hangings. She made several baby quilts as well to give as gifts at baby showers. Harriett attended Blackhawk Community Church and was a member at Pimento Community Church.
She is survived by her children, Rex Dalton (Ann), Lee Dalton (Linda), Duane “Dee” Dalton (Kim), and Karen Shotts (Greg), grandchildren Jamie, Christine, Tyler, Jenny, Scott, Darcy, Brittany, Mary Beth, Nicole, Mike, and Dustin; great grandchildren, Anthony, Ethan, Katie, Lydia, Abi, Lucy, Tucker, Everett, Dalton, Austin, Ellis, Konnor, Hadley, Maddie, Macayla, Gunnar, and Josh; daughter-in-law Tamme Dalton, brothers in law Jack Klebe and Lester Dalton (Karen), as well as several nieces and nephews. Harriett is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of nearly 40 years, Samuel J. Dalton who passed away in 1986, son Don Dalton, grandson Zack Danner, sister-in-law Shirley Klebe and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. There will again be visitation on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Service will be at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Craft and Reverend Jeff Lee will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Clay City. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Regional Hospital ICU for the love and care provided to Harriett.
