Geneva Pauline (Copeland) Waterman, 97, of Prairieton, IN died on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Union Hospital after a short illness. She was born on May 19, 1925, in Riley, IN to Emmett and Olissa Copeland and graduated from Farmersburg High School.
Geneva married Robert M. (Bob) Waterman on April 3, 1945, prior to him being deployed by the US Army to Germany in WW II. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2014.
Geneva enjoyed gardening, painting, quilting and needlecraft in her earlier days. In her later years, she enjoyed crocheting baby hats and working on making rugs as a member of the Prairieton Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was a member of the Prairieton UMC for nearly 70 years. In her earlier years, she taught children’s Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent.
During WW II, Geneva worked at the Delco Radio plant south of Terre Haute, building airplane radios. Later, she worked in the Vigo County schools as a cook.
She is survived by her two sons: Robert C. (Kathleen) of Charlestown, IN and Roger A. (Cheryl) of Prairieton, IN; four grandchildren: Angela Bridges (Levi); David Waterman; Mary Waterman (Chris Williams); and Elijah Waterman (Billie); along with five great-grandchildren: Logan, Noah, Hannah, Timothy, and David. She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Bush (Roy) and Mary Turner (Bill) and several nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Loren, Anna Mae, and Harry.
Visitation will be Thursday March 23, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel and again on Friday March 24, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at which time there will be a service provided by the Prairieton Fire Department Auxiliary, followed by a funeral service with Pastor Julie Puttmann officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Prairieton United Methodist Church.
