Dorothy Rebecca Strain-Nichols, 80, of Terre Haute went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with her immediate family at her side. She was born August 30, 1944 in Terre Haute to Earl and Betty (Russell) Strain. Dorothy worked at Holiday Inn for many years until her retirement. Dorothy is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Piety (Barrett) and Cindy Peters (Michael); nephews, Gary Hughes (Reva) and Michael Harmon; nieces, Lori Montgomery, Sharon Hughes, Mindy Cooper (Dustin), Christina Autterson, Charlotte Fulk, and Tracy McCombs; great-nephews, Nathan Cooper and Trevor Cooper; great-nieces, Leann Cutright (Jermey), Amanda Theisz (Adam), Stacy Fagg, and Alicia Jones (Brandon) and a special cousin, Janet Manley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Nichols, who she married on August 22, 2017 and sisters, Nancy Hughes, Brenda Peters, and Cathy Strain. Dorothy was a very good horse woman who always had barrel racing horses. She competed in horse shows and did very well. She had to give up horses in the last few years and missed them terribly. Her favorite horse was “Country”. She also enjoyed going to the casino. Animals were her life and she enjoyed them all. She will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services starting at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Joseph Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Barrett Piety, Michael Peters, Michael Harmon, Dustin Cooper, Nathan Cooper, and Trevor Cooper.
