Donald “Don” Ray Richmond, 85, of Terre Haute passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. He was born in Sullvan County on November 27, 1937, to Donald Bernard Richmond and Ruth May Thomas Richmond. Don was a 1956 graduate of Pimento High School in a class of fifteen. He proudly served his country for nine years in the Air Force Guard. He was a member of Farmers Chapel Church for over 50 years and a member of Oregon Baptish Church serving as Trustee and greeter. Don and his wife Carol were local crafters and had a fudge booth at Mansfield during Covered Bridge for many years. He was a very skilled woodworker and artist. Don created beautiful paintings, art, and walking sticks that he usually just gifted to people. He restored saddles and owned a Western store as well. Don worked as a glazier for Kasameyer Glass and other glass shops for over 50 years. This was a trade he shared with his father, and he passed on to his son and son-in-law. At one time there were three generations of glazers at Kasameyer. At the age of 73 he learned to play the banjo. He could also play the piano, guitar, and violin. He was a 50-year Mason beginning at the Prairieton Lodge and then at the Pimento Lodge #292. Don was also active in the Shriners for over 30 years.
After the passing of his beloved wife, Carol he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Marcella and they married in 2011. Together, they belonged to the Turner Travel Group. He and Marcella loved to travel and enjoyed visiting new places. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
Don is survived by his wife, Marcella Owen Richmond, son Kevin Richmond (Sara), daughter Vicky Cochran (David), nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren with one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carol Francis Richmond, and great granddaughter Mallorie Cochran.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Service will begin at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Geary officiating. Masonic Honors will be performed at the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Harmony Cemetery.
