Donald Cowan Obituary

Donald Joe Cowan passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020.  He was born March 24, 1935 in Lilbourn, Missouri to Albert and Betty Cowan.  He married Joyce Joann Duke on April 3, 1953.  They were married for 66 years.

Joe is survived by his wife, son Mark A. Cowan (Lisa), daughter Cheryl J. Mercker (David), and son Barry E. Cowan (Sally); seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Joe started one of the first bakery recycling businesses in the Midwest in 1965.  He moved his business and family to Terre Haute, Indiana in 1978 because of it’s location to major food manufacturers.  He purchased 100 acres on the south end of town as the business grew with the help of his two sons.

He loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and had many fun times with them on his property.

He absolutely loved spending his retired years tinkering in his shop and office, and driving the tractor and backhoe fixing things on the property.

He and Joyce also enjoyed going to Southern Gospel sings and travelled the Midwest often with friends and family.

He left his family with a legacy of love and faithfulness through good times and bad; and countless memories of his smile.
