Deborah Jo Long

Deborah “Debbie” Jo Long, 73, of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born June 5, 1951, in Terre Haute to Warren Robert Morris and Ruth Ann Dugger Morris.  Debbie was a 1969 graduate of Honey Creek High School.  She then attended Indiana State University earning her bachelor’s degree in 1973.  Debbie married the love of her life, Larry Long, in 1982.  She worked as a case worker for the Vigo County Child Protective Services for 38 years.  Debbie was a social butterfly and was active in several clubs and groups including Honey Creek Alumni, Newcomer’s & Friends Club, Honey Creek Garden Club, and a few Bunco Clubs.  She was an avid shopper, loved jigsaw puzzles, enjoyed lunches and dinners with close friends, and the Girls’ Getaways throughout the year.  Holidays with her family were so special to her, not even bad weather kept her from getting there.  She especially loved time with her nieces, nephews, and their families.

Debbie is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Long, sisters Royce Ewing (Gene) and Julia Groves (Larry), nieces and nephews Melissa, Jett (Stevie) and family, Lyle (Mandy), Jordan (Ashley) and family, Janette, Ashley, Brian and family, Bradley, Debi, Darren and family, and Jeff and family, sisters-in-law Carolyn Fischer and Betty Reece, her cat Kennedy Mae, as well as several close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Philip Morris, and sister-in-law Jan Cox.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at DeBaun Springhill Family from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Debbie may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Terre Haute Humane Society.
