David Eugene Hancock “Grandpa Dave”, 75, of Terre Haute passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Urbana, IL. He was born June 12, 1945 to Rellie “Doc” Hancock and Mary Maxine Hancock.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 29 years, Patricia Hancock; children, Tonya Isaacs (Scott), Trevor Scamihorn (Tiffany), Tersh Scamihorn; siblings, Nancy Smith, Jerry Hancock (Bonnie); grandchildren, Shelbie Reed (AJ), Natalie Scamihorn, Maxwell Scamihorn, Samuel Isaacs, Erin Isaacs, Benjamin Scamihorn, Braxton Scamihorn, Kallie Scamihorn, Lane Martin; close friends, Bob Norder, Russ Fisher Sr., Donnie Hancock, and Carl Norris. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister (Linda Card of Florida).
Dave was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, a life-time truck driver, and a veteran of the US Army who served in Vietnam. Dave was an avid gardener who prided himself on his tomatoes and peaches. When Dave wasn’t trucking or gardening, he was watching westerns or spending time with his treasured grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He enjoyed life on the lake as well as taking care of his dogs. But most of all, he adored his precious wife, Patty and the life they built together.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 18 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at DeBaun Funeral Home, 85 East Springhill Drive. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Graveside services with military honors provided by Riley American Legion Post 328 will be immediately following at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jenna Kay Perrelle Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.
