Dave Phelps

David F. “Dave” Phelps, 74. Of Prairieton, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on the evening of November 2, 2023 while serving with the Prairieton Fire Department. Dave was born on January 24, 1949 to William and Geneva Phelps. He married Mickey (Acklin) Phelps on September 5, 1970. Dave was an active member of the Prairieton Fire Department for 59 years. He was a life-long member of the Prairieton United Methodist Church and the Indiana Volunteer Fireman’s Association. Dave was the Prairieton Township Trustee for many years, proudly serving the citizens of Prairieton Township. Dave was an avid hunter, fisherman, and NASCAR fan. He was a 1966 graduate of Honey Creek High School and retired from the Indianapolis Newspaper in 1995. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mickey (Acklin) Phelps; daughter, Ramie Carver (Brad); son, Drew Phelps (Amy Compton); granddaughter, Madison Phelps (Adam Craig); sister, Joan Finkbiner and niece, Nancy Carter (Steve); Nephew Paul Allen Finkbiner (Missy) and family, and his best fur friend Toby Dale. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Phelps, uncle and aunt, Everett and Inas Phelps, and other family members. Visitation will be Tuesday November 7, 2023 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with a memorial service conducted by the IVFA at the end of visitation. Funeral services will be Wednesday November 8, 2023 at 10:30 am in the funeral home with Pastor Julie Putmann officiating.
