Keller, Indiana mourns the passing of a life-long pillar of the town. Darrell Ray Price, son of Verner Ray and Hazel Roberta Price, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
An avid fan of Louis L'Amour's frontier tales, Darrell lived his life to the fullest of L'Amour's instruction: "One has only so much time in this world, so devote it to the work and the people most important to you, to those you love and things that matter." Darrell was a coach, a builder, a backflipping-diver, a 300-game bowler and member of the Wabash Valley Walking Horse Association. His favorite pastime was rooting on his beloved Chicago Cubs and Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. In his brief time away from his home near Riley, he worked at Cape Canaveral during the Apollo Missions, ensuring that his children got to see the beginning of space exploration first hand. Darrell’s wicked smile and wit kept his friends laughing—even while he was busy taking their money at the Euchre table. His unwavering loyalty, creativity, and ingenuity made Darrell the bedrock of any community lucky enough to claim him.
In 1952, Darrell married the love of his life: Mary Elizabeth. Their 68 year marriage is an inspiration to any couple, young or old. Together, Darrell and Mary raised five children: Thomas Darrell, Theresa Dawn, Tonia Denise, Tod Drew, and Timothy David. Above and beyond his many other achievements, Darrell was an incredible father and friend, whose guidance, humor, and support will be sorely missed.
Darrell is survived by a family almost as big as his personality: his wife, Mary; their children, 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and even 1 great-great-grandbaby. In passing, he joins his beloved daughter, Tonia,—where both will surely laugh at the trouble of parting this world, and wait for us all to be together again.
Services will be held at the DeBaun Funeral Home Saturday, April 10, 2021. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Services are to follow. Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
