Clara "Kat" Wilson Obituary

Clara Kathryn Wilson, affectionately known as "Kat," peacefully passed away at the age of 95 on January 19, 2024, in her home surrounded by her family. Born in South Pittsburgh, TN, on September 22, 1928, to Gordon and Clara Mae Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, Herbie, two sons Harold Wilson and Randy Wilson, one daughter Pam Chambers, one grandson Ryan Wilson, and one granddaughter Dianna Hough.

Kat is survived by four daughters: Carol Jory, Sharon Keegan, Debbie Quenzler (Ron), and Barb Gough (Rudy), as well as two sons Kevin Wilson and Jeffrey Wilson (Gracie). She leaves behind 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In her youth, Kat worked in a small cafe in Tennessee, where she met and fell in love with Harold "Herbie" Wilson. They married on December 15, 1945, and relocated to Terre Haute, IN, to start their family. After seven children, they moved to Prairieton, IN, in 1962, where two more children were added to the family. Kat joined Prairieton United Methodist Church, remaining dedicated to both the church and the Prairetion community throughout her life.

As a devoted homemaker, Kat navigated the challenges of being both mother and father to their nine children while Herbie worked as the Captain of a riverboat, often away from home six months of every year. She demonstrated strength and determination, filling various roles such as organizer, cook, taxi, nurse, laundry lady, homework assistant, mediator, and disciplinarian. Kat emphasized the importance of family and love for one another, preserving garden produce in the basement and engaging in activities like Home Economics, Girl Scout leadership, Boy Scouts assistance, and volunteering at her church.

As her children grew, Kat joined numerous organizations, including a fifty-year membership in The Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, The Red Hats, The Cauldron, Honored Ladies, Patrol, and The Shrine. She enjoyed crafting projects, particularly working alongside Herbie in his wood shop, showcasing and selling their creations at various festivals. Kat also worked at Bohannon's restaurant and Fannie May candy store at Honey Creek Mall. Traveling and camping with friends brought her joy, forming lifelong friendships and holding a special place in her heart for trips to Branson, Missouri.

Kat, known for her beautiful white hair, kind soul, and sweet comforting smile, will be dearly remembered and deeply missed by all who loved her. She takes with her our never ending love.
