Benjamin ‘Ben’ Joseph Emory Sr., passed away at the age of 60, at home on Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 at around 4:30 a.m. He was born in Danville, Illinois on July 2, 1958 to James and Wanda Emory.
Ben was preceded in death by his father James S. Emory. grandparents Jess and Delora (Williams) Emory and Cecil and Lena (Ramsey) Laycock, as well as several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his mother Wanda (Laycock) Emory, his sister Deborah (Tim) Dillard and his children Autumn (Nate) Johnson, Ben, Jr. (Beth) Emory and Chris Emory (Kristine Stultz).
Proud grandfather of Jadelynn, Maddox, Noah, Gunner and Aubri. Great-grandfather of Ember. Several relatives including three aunts Alma (Emory) Whitsit, Liz (Earl) Emory and Rosemary (Laycock) Mariani, nieces, Amanda ‘Mandi’ (Will) Linde and Amelia ‘Amy’ (Jake) Robinson grandnieces Wren and Maizie, grandnephew Wiley and many cousins that will miss his joyful company.
He treasured his family and embraced every moment of life. He had a vivacious personality and always made people around him laugh.
Ben made friends everywhere he went. He leaves behind many loving friendships including his life long friends Ron (Kathy) Moody.
Ben graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School in 1977, were he was on the baseball and football teams. He then attended Ivy Tech for Mechanical training. Ben worked as a laborer for several industries in Terre Haute including Gartland Foundry, Ampacet Corp. and Tri-Industries.
Ben was a member of the Masonic Organization and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The way he died is just like he lived: he wrote his own rules, he fought authority and he paved his own way. And if you said he couldn’t do it, he would make sure he could.
Ben is remembered by family and friends for his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and finding mushrooms to eat. He also loved dogs, watching old black and white westerns and he really took pleasure in watching soap operas with his Mom who he lived with and cared for. Ben enjoyed sports and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Ben with his family during visitation at DeBaun Funeral Home, 85 E Springhill Dr, Terre Haute, Indiana 47802, on Friday, June 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm with graveside services following at Oak Hill Cemetery, Riley, Indiana.

Ben will truly be missed in the lives of many and long remembered through joyful memories.
