Barbara Jean Anderson, 91, of Terre Haute, died July 22, 2019 at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus. She was born December 13, 1927 to Delbert and Maxine (Rich) Fye in Kokomo, Indiana, and raised in Terre Haute by adoptive parents William and Glatie (Handley) Rich. Barbara, known as Jean by her family, attended St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in Terre Haute until her retirement at age 70. She married Bob Miller in 1948 and had a son, Randy Miller. She married Ken Anderson in 1960 and had a daughter, Betsy Anderson. Devoted to her nursing career, Jean also obtained an English degree from Indiana State University. She was an avid writer and gardener who loved music, literature, humor, nature, and her pet cats. She also enjoyed being a Cub Scout den mother. She is survived by her son Randy (Dorothy), daughter Betsy, grandchildren Tim Shanks (Charity and Shelly Prothero (Matt); great-grandchildren Wyatt and Timmy Shanks; siblings, Maggie Smith, Joan Alexander, and Jack Fye and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouses, and other relatives. Private family burial will be at a later date in Nyes Chapel Cemetery. Jean touched the lives and hearts of many people.
