Wilma Louise Shadley Burns, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was born on March 24, 1934, in Terre Haute to Thomas Henry Shadly and Marguerite Lodena Harbrueger Shadley. Wilma was a very loving mother to her seven children. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all brought her so much joy. Wilma was an active member of St. Mark United Church of Christ. During her long-time membership, she served as a Deacon, nursery attendant, Junior Worship Leader, Bible Classes, Sewing Gals, Women’s Afternoon Fellowship, and church Secretary. Throughout her life she stayed active and was the Lost Creek Jr. Extension Homemakers Club President, Vigo County Extension Homemakers Choral Club Charter Member, Terre Haute North Vigo Music Boosters Co-Chairman for eight years, Member of Bethel #2 Job’s Daughters, and Girl Scout assistant leader and Brownie leader. She worked for many years at Glas-col Apparatus and retired from there. Wilma also worked for Crescent Products, Y.M.C.A Grill, Terre Haute First National Bank, and Harkness Homecare, Inc.
Wilma is survived by her children, Lynn Ann Peters (Rick), Diana Kay Heubel (David), Monica Kay West (Dave), David Allen Burns, William “Billy” Colin Burns, and Nicole Renea King (Shane); grandchildren, Angela Marie Murphy, Danielle Marie Carmichael, George Lee Heubel, III (Ashley), Matthew David West, Michael David West, Rachel Lynn West (Levi Garred), Madison Alaxander King, Timothy “T.J.” James West, Charles Sebastian King (Kaitlyn), and Elijah Daniel King; great-grandchildren, Dorian Murphy, Kaleb Heubel, Haleigh Carmichael, Colton Heubel, Rory Jackson, Zoe Garred, and Chloe Garred. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Iris Rose Stockard and son in law Andrew Stockard.
Visitation will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Moore officiating.
