Wilma Jean Brown Tennis "Jean", 85, of Terre Haute passed away on May 10, 2013 at 4:00a.m. She was born on December 18, 1927 to William Brown and Lena Rodgers Brown. Jean was a lifetime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Terre Haute. She retired after 20 years as the Head of Nurses of the Vigo County School Corporation. She and her husband served 2 years in the Peace Corps in Africa after their retirement. Together they also volunteered for 12 years with Meals on Wheels. Jean is survived by her husband of 67 years Jerome Tennis; sons Jerome Tennis Jr., wife Loretta, David Tennis, William "Bill" Tennis, wife Marci, Ned Tennis, and his wife Lisa; daughter Jane Tennis; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother Robert Brown, and his wife Bernice. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Tom Brown and Bill Brown; and sisters Louise Tryon and Joan McDowell. A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday June 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in Centenary United Methodist Church, 301 N 7th Street, with Pastor Jimmy Moore officiating. Family and friends are invited to come to the church at 2:00p.m. on the day of service to visit and share stories and memories about Jean. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation can be made to Meals on Wheels, 14th and Chestnut Community Center, Goodwill Industries, or Hospice of the Wabash Valley. The family has entrusted DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive, with making arrangements.
