William
Staunton
William J. "Bill" Staunton, 63 of Linton, IN and formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 10:55 PM at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in South Bend on June 4, 1952 to Dr. Henry Staunton and Clarice Hiznay Staunton. Bill was an enthusiastic elementary science teacher having taught at various schools in the South Bend area, including Christ the King, Eggeleston, Coquillard, Prairie Vista and Meadow's Edge schools. Earning his Masters in teaching, he made learning fun and encouraged his students to appreciate nature and to protect the environment. He also taught and led children at Camp Eberhart in Michigan, and started and led Caruso Outpost and Earth Crusaders camping clubs. He strove to open the eyes of young adults to the beauty and wonder of nature, how to find it and cherish it. Bill was known for his talent of story telling, particularly for being the "best ghost story teller ever!" He also enjoyed photography, shooting weddings and family portraits. Soft spoken, patient and sincere, Bill was truly a gentle man and will be missed by many. Bill is survived by his mother Clarice Staunton, and five brothers; David Staunton, Don Staunton, Bob Staunton, Chris Staunton, and Jim Staunton, as well as two sisters; Mary Beth Sullivan and Joanne Stacy. Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Henry Staunton. There will be a Gathering of Friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm on Thursday July 30, 2015 in Little Flower Church in South Bend, IN with a Funeral Mass at 3:00 pm in the church. Arrangements are under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory, 85 E. Springhill Dr. Terre Haute, IN 47802.
