William Michael Dowell, or "Mike" as he was known to friends and family, lifelong resident of Terre Haute, passed away at the age of 64 on Tuesday May 21, 2024. Mike was born September 30th 1959, and grew up in the Terre Town neighborhood of Terre Haute, IN. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and was a 1977 graduate of Paul Schulte High School. Mike excelled in several sports during his youth. He could often be found riding dirt bikes and motorcycles with his friends and getting into mischief. He always enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the Wabash River, boating, fishing, hunting, throwing parties, and enjoying the outdoors. Mike was a lover of history and especially Native American history as well as collecting and researching Native American artifacts. Together with his family he was part owner of J.J. Smith Flower Shop and Gardens where he worked from a young age, planting in the greenhouses, digging in the hotbeds, and making the most breathtaking funeral arrangements you've ever seen. Mike was creative and had a wicked sense of humor. He loved mobster movies, music, reading about history and nature, and spending time with friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene "Bill" Dowell and Lois Jean Dowell (Fox) as well as his brother, Patrick K. Dowell Sr. He is survived by his former wives; Beth Diel, Mary Davis and Deborah Dowell, his four children; Joshua Michael Dowell (Jessica), Erin Marie Dowell DeBaun (Curtis), Daniel Michael Dowell, and Michelle Lynn Dowell, Five grandchildren; Mattox William Dowell, Lily Jean Dowell DeBaun, Lucille Rose Lynn Childress, Lincoln William Michael Childress, And Lucas William Robert Dowell. Visitation will be Tuesday May 28, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services starting at 6:00 pm in the funeral home.
