It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of SGM (Ret) William J. Murrey. He leaves behind his wonderful wife of almost 25 years. He was born in Coolville Ohio on May 25th, 1936 to Wren (Garton) Murrey and Harry Lester Murrey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Murrey of Vincent OH. He married his loving wife, Misty Mann, in 1991 and she survives. He is also survived his sons Brian (Ann) Murrey of Whiteland In, Randy (Maria) Murrey of Somanauk Il, his step daughters Beverly (Bob) Swain of Terre Haute, and Cheryl (Mike) Cottrell of Rosedale IN, his sister Betty (Dorsel) Vineyard of Coolville OH, and his brother Ed (Betty) Murrey of Hockingport OH. He was the proud grandfather of 6 grand children, and 11 great grand children and uncle to 13 nieces and nephews. Bill also leaves behind many good friends and extended family, especially his son in law, Bob Swain, who was like another son to him, they enjoyed many years hunting deer together, he loved boating and camping with his family. He was a military veteran serving in the US Army as a tank driver in Germany from 1958 to 1960. He later joined the Indiana National Guard, and was the recipient of the Hammer of Thor Award from the 38th Supply and Transport Battalion in 1988. He retired at the rank of Sergeant Major in 1996 after over 25 years of military service. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Terre Haute. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:30 AM, with Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 29, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at DeBaun Springhill Chapel.
