Obituary

Born a natural story-teller, Wendell Manwaring entered eternal life on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at the age 92. He was a proud World War II veteran from the hills of Pulaski, Illinois, the son of William Barton Manwaring and Hattie Elmira (Bagby) Manwaring. He was born on May 21, 1922 the youngest of three sons. He met his first love, Vera Marie Hermann, at Fort Wayne in Detroit, MI during World War II. They were married on August 16, 1945 at St. Thomas Rectory in Detroit. He was blessed with four sons, Wendell Wayne Manwaring and his wife Linda of Brownsburg, IN; Vernon Keith Manwaring and his wife Charlene of Anderson, IN, Dale Andrew Manwaring and his wife Arlene of Terre Haute and Gregory Dean Manwaring formerly of Murfreesboro, TN. Lori, Scott. Melissa, Letitia, Wayne, Amy, Emilee, Rebecca and Stephen called him Grandpa. Fifteen children called him Great Grandpa and four called him their Great Great Grandpa. He then married Virginia D. (Hogan) Beaman in 1990. He is also survived by a special friend Shirley Bradley. Wendell was a local businessman for many years, providing bookkeeping and accounting services. He was a dedicated member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, traveled the United States extensively with his first wife and loved reading historical fiction. Wendell was preceded in death by both wives, Vera in 1988 and Virginia in 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Greg in 1994 and two brothers, Durward in 1998 and Herbert in 1967. Visitation will be Friday August 8, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Home, Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Ave. and then on Saturday August 9, 2014 from 10:00 until 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in the church with Father Stephen Giannini officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military graveside honors.
