Obituary

Wade "Bill" William Winston, 63, passed away on May 17th, 2023 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born on October 1st, 1959, in Roseburg, Oregon, to Harrison Renner Winston and Elsie Ruth Miller-Winston. He is survived by his brothers Robin (Kathy), Harry, and Renner (Carol) Winston; children Trevor (Leah), Renner (Miranda), and Annie Winston; grandchildren Isaac and Grant Winston.

Wade was a graduate of Douglas High School in 1977 where he participated in wrestling and band. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in music theory and composition from Oregon State University in 1982, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Afterward, he moved to Indiana and earned a Master of Science degree in Music Education from Indiana State University in 1987. Wade was a military veteran who served his country in the Indiana National Guard from 1986-1992 and earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After graduating from basic training, he received a Distinguished Honor Graduate Award, which is truly a testament to his character.

He was passionate about music and taught band, choir, and orchestra for over 20 years in Vigo County, Indiana until he retired from Sarah Scott Middle School a few years ago. He also directed many summer musicals through the VCSC Performing Arts Workshop. Wade wrote countless original songs and loved playing piano, singing, and recording his own music. Wade also played piano at St. Benedict's Church, Faith Wesleyan Church, and Calvary Temple in Terre Haute.

In his free time, he enjoyed practicing martial arts, was a 5th-degree DAN black belt, and taught karate for many years in his own studio in Terre Haute. In 1990, he was awarded the Presidential Sports Award for Karate by President George W. Busch for his devotion to the sport. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening, fishing, and camping. He loved all animals including his four dogs, whom he regretfully left behind.

His most important legacy to this world and what he was most passionate about was his three children- Trevor, Renner, and Annie. Rarely did he miss a holiday, birthday, or graduation. His memory lives on through his music and his children and grandchildren. His son Renner will be honoring his father's memory by running in the Patriot 5 Mile Race to benefit military veterans. Although his family will be holding a private ceremony for him in their own time, we encourage everyone to join in the celebrations of his life. We want to thank everyone who has already donated to the GoFundMe to help cover the costs of end-of-life arrangements. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ollie's/St-Francis K9 Rescue.
