Virginia Lee Whippo, 90, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday May 14, 2016 at 12:34 pm in Southwood Health and Rehab. Virginia had worked at Quaker Maid and retired from housekeeping at Indiana State University. She was born March 29, 1926 in Vigo County to Cleon Mason and Gladys E. (Highnote) Mason. She is survived by a son, Paul Ramer (Vicki) of West Terre Haute; a daughter, Charlene K. Houpt of Terre Haute; a granddaughter, Angela Gilbert; step-grandchildren, Tammy Kikta (Pete) and Brad Schaffer (Amy); great grandchildren, Jordan Bradley, Kamryn, Macy, Karsyn, Brittany (Wyatt), Jordon, and Isaiah; a great great grandson, Zaine and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Whippo who died in 1989 and sisters, Anita F. Bensley and LaVera M. Warrick. Virginia attended Calvary Temple Church, was a former member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries and she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Visitation will be Tuesday May 17, 2016 from 3:00 until 7:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services at 7:00 pm in the funeral with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Private family burial will be at a later time in Roselawn Memorial Park. If friends so desire, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Church of Christ.
