Obituary

Vernon Scott Keller, 63, passed away on January 20, 2026. He was born on January 24, 1962 in Terre Haute, IN to Vernon R. Keller and Christine (Rukes) Keller. Scott married Renee (Karam) Keller on April 25, 1992.

Scott Keller, MS, LAT, ATC (Scotty to friends and coworkers) graduated from Terre Haute North High School (1980), completed his Bachelor of Science (1999) and Masters of Science (2002) degrees at Indiana State University. Scott was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at ISU from 1999-2002, then became Head Athletic Trainer at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 2004. During this time he worked with all athletic teams and impacted over 10,000 student athletes.  Scott was a member of National Athletic Training Association, Indiana Athletic Training Association, Professional Athletic Trainers  Society, RHIT Wellness Committee member, RHIT Athletic Leadership Team, worked at the NFL Scouting Combine as an Orthopedic Screener for 7 years, as well as having worked Colts Training Camp. While at RHIT, he was awarded the Jess Lucas Spirit Award and 2021 Commissioner's Cup Award for his outstanding time commitment and personal sacrifice during the Covid Pandemic in the 2020-2021 academic year.

Scott's work was more than just a career for him. He made eternal connections with colleagues, student athletes and their parents, whether it pertained to Athletic Training or someone in need of mentoring or a listening ear.

Outside of work, Scott's top priority was spending time with is family and friends. Scott loved being outside, working in the yard or sitting around a campfire.  Scott was a life-long avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Renee Keller, sons Nicholas Keller and Cory Keller, father Vernon R. Keller, sister Robin Keller Shamsaie, brother-in-law Shawn Shamsaie, nephews Adam Shamsaie (Kenzie), Julian Shamsaie (Kalli), great niece Adaline Shamsaie, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is also survived by his beloved sisters-in-law Jholeen Cunningham (Paul), Cheryl Kingrey (Jerry), Paula Poole and brother-in-law Kevin Karam (Stephanie) in Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Christine Keller and grandparents, Katherine and Lewis Keller, Mary Della Rukes Adams and Ezra Rukes.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at DeBaun Funeral Home with services at 2:00 pm. Online condolences may be left at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
