Obituary

Vernon K. Harlan, 64 of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Terre Haute on July 14, 1949 to Warren Harlan and Joy Laybold Harlan. Vernon was a farmer, and enjoyed restoring tractors and attending antique tractor shows. His memberships included Farm Bureau and the Advisory Board for Farm Credit Services. He is survived by his wife Emma M. Harlan—whom he married October 22, 1983, and his son, Jared S. Harlan. Also surviving is his sister, Loretta Harlan, and his brother, Dennis Harlan & wife Vicki, and a nephew, Spencer Harlan. Other survivors include his father-in-law, Bob Axe, and 2 brothers-in-law, Bill Axe and John Axe. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Margaret Axe. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Kevin Dobson officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel. The family requests memorial contributions are made to the Sullivan County FFA, C/O Sullivan High School, 902 N. Section St., Sullivan, IN 47882, in his memory.
