Obituary

Verdell Hathecock, Sr., 97 of Terre Haute passed away Thursday February 20, 2014 in his residence. He had been a member of the Laborer's International Union Local #204 since June 1, 1951. Verdell was born April 8, 1916 in Seelyville, IN to Wesley Hathecock and Mary (Roberts) Hathecock. He is survived by sons, Verdell Hathecock, Sr. and wife Kelly, Ricky Nelson Stewart, and Mathew Hathecock and wife Kim; daughters, Barbara Smith and husband David and Evelyn Carson and he husband Chandler and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and a special friend Mary Russell. He was preceded in death by his wife Mable Hathecock; his parents; grandson, Wesley T. Hathecock; brothers, Bud Hathecock, Kenneth "Jack" Hathecock; sisters, Cinderella Stewart, Lucille Anderson, and Constance Moody; and his beloved coon dog Cherokee. Verdell was a member of Lost Creek Baptist Church, the Lost Creek Community Growth, Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #4 F. & A.M.. He also loved fishing and was an avid hunter. Visitation will be on Sunday February 23, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in DeBaun Funeral Home, Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Ave. Funeral services will be Monday February 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Lost Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Terell Jones officiating; there will also be visitation at the church from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday. Burial will be in Stewart Lawn Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice of the Wabash Valley (envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
