Thelma (Pearce) Hayne, 67, passed away Feb 21, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on Aug 8, 1946 to Emory W. Pearce and Bessie E. (Pearce) Keegan, in Terre Haute, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Johanna (Sankey) Stewart; daughter, Lorie New. She worked as the Vigo Co. Democrat Precinct Committee person for approximately 10 years. She was the Vigo Co. coordinator for Senator Birch Bayh for 2 years during his first bid for President at which time she and her husband Larry traveled with the Senator and secret service to Iowa to campaign. She then served on the Board of Directors of the United Cerebral Palsy Association for 2 years, as well as the Board of Directors of the Terre Haute South Little League for 6 years. She later served as the treasurer for her church, Breden Memorial for 8 years. Thelma also worked in the office at Meis H. C. Store for 10 years. After retiring she then raised 2 grandsons Patrick Tarwater and Elijah Oglesby. Thelma enjoyed spending time with her great granddaughter Gabby Tarwater who gave her the nickname "Mema." Thelma is survived by her husband of 50 years, Larry (LD, Skip) Hayne, daughter, Bobbie Jo Hayne, grandchildren Patrick, Kristin & Kimberly Tarwater, Elijah Oglesby, Zach Leek, 11 great grandchildren, sisters Diane Stanford and Barbara Sankey, aunt Virginia (Pearce) Weaherman, special friends, Sue McMahan, Ethel Beach, Billie Bridwell (cousin), Michael Sparks (like a grandson) and Phyllis Pancake. Visitation will be Friday February 28, 2014 from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with funeral services at 3:00 PM in the funeral home with Pastors David Deal and Greg Putman officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
