Obituary

Sue Ellen (Campbell) Davis went to meet her loving Father on Friday, March 20, 2026, the first day of Spring. Her family takes comfort in the image of her resting safely in her Father's arms, seeing the nail-scarred hands and feet, and receiving His welcome with deep love and pride in a life faithfully lived and a job well done.

Sue was born on August 13, 1949, and her life was marked by devotion — to her family, her faith, her community, and her country. She was married to her husband Fred on October 13, 1968, and for 57 years, their partnership was defined by loyalty, steadiness, and mutual care well, 50… they would both tell you marriage is hard work. Together they built a home filled with love, tradition, and the kind of everyday moments that become a family's foundation.

Sue loved to bake, cook, and gather people around a table. Many in her neighborhood will remember her "Garage Door Dinners," where she served home-cooked meals until the food ran out and the door came down. Feeding others was one of her greatest joys, and she shared that gift generously.

Her hands were rarely still. Sue crocheted blankets, quilts, hats, scarves, and muffs with handwarmers, blessing countless people with her work. Her yarn collection could rival a craft store, each piece she made was an expression of care and comfort.

Sue served her community faithfully. She was active in the local Republican party and worked the polls at every election, calling her fellow poll workers her "family." She believed deeply in service, responsibility, and civic duty.

For many years, she was known as "Momma Sue" to the graduate students in the School Psychology Department at Indiana State University. She brought baked goods to them several days a week, offering encouragement, stability, and a sense of home. Her boss affectionately called her "Radar" for her ability to anticipate needs and keep everything running smoothly. As he often said, "What am I signing now, Radar?" Today, with gratitude for her years of dedication, we say: Radar is signing off.

Sue is survived by her husband Fred; her daughter Holly; and her sister Saundra Mouser and husband Alan. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews — Christy Palermo (Dan), Scott Mouser (Sandy), Jill Turner (Shane), Kathy Booe, Karla Runyon (Greg), Kim Gerber (Mike), Keith Nees (Debbie), Larry R. Davis (Robin), Jeanette Boyer (Craig) and Mary Jo Royer (Mike) as well as her sister-in-law Virginia Davis. She leaves behind a large and cherished extended family of great-nieces, great-nephews, and their children, and a whole mess of cousins, each of whom she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Crystal (Brewer) Campbell, and her family finds peace in knowing she is reunited with them.

Sue's life was defined by faith, service, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her. Her absence will be felt profoundly, but her influence will continue in the lives she touched, the traditions she built, and the countless acts of kindness she quietly carried out.
