Steven Joe "Woody" Woods, 68 of Terre Haute, passed away at 6:51 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 in Union Hospital. He was born in Sullivan, IN on July 8, 1948 to Walter Woods and Esther Neal Woods. Woody was a Mine Safety and Health Inspector for the Indiana Department of Labor, was a Viet Nam veteran, having served as a Navy Seal in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he received both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He is survived by his son, Chris Woods, a brother, Floyd Woods (wife Valinda), and a sister, Beth Woods Wright, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sue Phillipps. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 19 F & AM, Zorah Shrine, Vigo County Shrine Club, Jesters Court 45, ROJ, VFW Post # 972, Elks Lodge # 86 of Terre Haute, and the Sycamore Club. Memorial Services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 3:00 PM, with Masonic Lodge # 19 F & AM providing services. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held the Sycamore Club immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the Disabled American Veterans.
